WHAT IS SCOUTS?

Scouts is the section of the Scout Association for 10-14 year olds. The Scout section offeres a varied programme of activities and encourages young people to start tackling more challenging activities. It also teaches the young people to be able to look after themselves and towards the end of their time in Scouts to start leading other people.

SO WHAT IS SCOUTS LIKE AT IGHTHAM?

Ightham Scouts have 40 young people, (approximately 65% boys, 35% girls) ranging between 10 and 14 years old. The members are either made up from members who move up from Cubs, or by people joining outside Scouting, and either are welcomed.

Our Scouts are organised into 4 patrols (small groups): Buffalos, Tigers,Cobras and Eagles. Each patrol has a patrol leader, an assistant patrol leaderand quite a lot of members!

We have 6 leaders, and 4 young leaders who run the meetings.

The Troop provides a programme encouraging young people to learn life skills, work together, learn to lead, and form strong friendships whilst having a fun and adventurous time! We provide a number of residential experiences throughout the year, culminating in the very popular summer camp.

Summer Camps can be held anywhere, and most recently we have been to: Bristol (2010), New Forest (2006 and 2009), and Jersey (2008). During camps, all Scouts sleep in tents, do their own cooking over open fires, and do loads of adventurous and exciting activities including climbing, canoeing, microlighting, archery and many others.

FROM OUR SCOUTS...

"I love Scouts because it gives me something fun and different to do at the end of the school week" Chloe (Age 13)

"I like Scouts because I've been able to try new things I never would have done anywhere else like paraglyding and rock climbing! Also I love all the watersports we get to do!" Millie (Age 13)
